L-1 Identity Solutions [ID] has won a seven-year, $18 million contract from the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission to provide a secure driver’s license solution. The first year of the contract will include the ramp up and implementation of the new system and the remaining six years will consist of card production and equipment and software maintenance. “New Jersey is a strategic win for L-1 and an important bellwether to the nation as a state that is not just focused on the identity management concerns of its citizens today, but also on setting new standards that will ensure the most secure credential possible in the future,” says Robert LaPenta, L-1’s chairman, president and CEO. L-1 says that New Jersey is changing its existing workflow process for driver’s license issuance to incorporate photo-first capabilities as part of its effort to curb identity-related fraud. The state is also implementing a secure card production solution as part of its over-the-counter system that will make the licenses compliant with proposed standards set forth in the REAL ID Act. L-1 is the incumbent on the contract.
