L-3 Communications [LLL] successfully completed the final step in a government security certification process for the company’s Military Code (M-Code) GPS User Equipment, the company said Wednesday.

The M-Code GPS is an advanced user equipment technology that increases soldiers’ ability to resist enemy jamming and spoofing and also performs better in contested environments, the company said.

The technology development and certification was performed under the Air Force Military GPS User Equipment (MGUE) program, which is led by the GPS Directorate in the Space and Missile Systems Center (SMC) at Los Angeles Air Force Base. The certification review was performed by an independent government review team focusing on the security design of the L-3 GPS User Equipment.

The new standards intend to further protect the integrity of the navigation and timing solutions and provide required safeguards for critical information within GPS User Equipment, L-3 said.

The company also highlighted it is the first Defense Department contractor to complete this certification.

“We are pleased to be the first DoD contractor to complete security certification for our new M-Code GPS User Equipment,Michael Strianese, chairman and CEO of L-3, said in a statement.

“Timely delivery of these advancements to the warfighter is essential as they respond to current and emerging threats on the battlefield,” he added.

Work on the L-3 project will be performed by L-3 Interstate Electronics Corporation (L-3 IEC), a unit within the company’s Precision Engagement & Training sector, which itself is part of L-3’s electronic systems business segment.
