L3 Technologies [LLL] officials Monday announced a three-year, $391 million to deliver the Army’s next-generation binocular night vision goggles.
The contract for L3’s Enhanced Night Vision Goggle-Binocular (ENVG-B), awarded in May, will meet the Army’s requirement for devices that offer improved infrared and electro-optical night vision capabilities for warfighters.
“These advanced night vision capabilities reflect L3’s intense focus on developing and providing innovative technologies that make our customers better and more effective in the field,” L3 CEO Christopher Kubasik said in a statement. “As the Army continues to modernize to keep pace with near-peer adversaries, our agility and experience enable us to move quickly in a heightened threat environment”
L3’s ENVG-B includes high-performance white phosphor image intensification capabilities and a seperate thermal channel for image fusion and thermal target detection.
The Army’s project out of Aberdeen Proving Ground in Md. has looked for a night vision binocular device that increases abilities for locating and engaging threats while having tools for accessing common operating imagery.
The new night vision binoculars are also built to function with the Army’s Nett Warrior tracking systems, including a soldier wireless personal area network.
Marine Corps officials announced their service’s next-generation Binocular Night Vision Goggle II is expected to reach full operational capability by the second quarter of FY 19.
Force Reconnaissance and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Marines began receiving the BNVG II this spring.
