A Lockheed Martin [LMT] senior executive and a former civilian official of both the Navy and Air Force met Tuesday with Vice President-elect Mike Pence at Trump Tower in New York.
Both Trump and Pence on Tuesday received national security briefings, according to Trump transition team spokesman Sean Spicer, who spoke with reporters during the Republican National Committee’s daily conference call. Trump, who has eschewed taking daily security briefings is awaiting a final report by the intelligence community on Russian interference with the recent United States presidential election and will take a separate briefing on the findings after President Barack Obama, Spicer said.
Trump is scheduled to take the oath of office in 17 days.
Pence met with Leo S. Mackay, vice president of ethics and sustainability and an elected corporate officer at Lockheed. The topic of the meeting was not discussed during Spicer’s daily call with reporters.
Mackay is a director of Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp., a supplier of business and information technology services and strategic advisor to Pegasus Capital Advisors, a private equity fund focused on sustainability and wellness.
Mackay served as deputy secretary of veterans affairs from 2001 to 2003. Prior to his tenure at the VA, he served as military assistant to the assistant secretary of defense for international security policy. In that role, he oversaw counter-proliferation, arms control and U.S. weapon exports. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and the board of directors of the Center for a New American Security.
A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Mackay is a former naval pilot of F-14 Tomcats who attended the Navy Fighter Weapons School, better known as Top Gun.
Trump has yet to tap a secretary of Veterans Affairs and several national security positions, including the civilian leaders of the Navy and Air Force.
Pence met also with Joseph Guzman, who Spicer described as a former board member of the Armed Forces Foundation who also served as deputy assistant secretary of the Navy in the Office of Financial Management. Guzman previously was the deputy assistant secretary of the Air Force and deputy director of the Defense Department Biometric Management Office, according to an online profile.
“He has ample experience in the military and a variety of public-sector experience,” Spicer said of Guzman, but not in reference to a specific possible position.
Trump is expected to name more senior administration officials in the coming week, Spicer said.
