Lockheed Martin [LMT] Canada, which is upgrading the Royal New Zealand Navy’s two Anzac-class frigates, announced March 14 that it has delivered the combat system trainer for the project.
A maritime warfare training center at Devonport Naval Base in Auckland received the trainer in February, the company said. Rosemary Chapdelaine, vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin Canada Rotary and Mission Systems, said the trainer, which resembles the operations room of a ship, will provide “high-fidelity simulations of real-world conditions.” lockheed logo
Lockheed Martin Canada is the prime system integrator for the frigate project, which will give the ships a new combat management system, new radars and other improvements to replace aging equipment. According to the New Zealand Ministry of Defence, detailed design of the upgrades is due to be completed in the second quarter of 2017.
