Lockheed Martin’s [LMT] commercial launch services plans to put a new WorldView-3 remote sensing satellite into space on Wednesday on behalf of customer DigitalGlobe, a commercial provider of Earth observation imagery.
The launch is slated to take place at Vandenberg AFB, Calif., in mid-afternoon eastern time. WorldView-3 will be carried by an Atlas V rocket, and if successful, would mark the 118 Atlas V launch since 2002.
WorldView-3 is the first multi-payload, super-spectral, high-resolution commercial satellite for earth observations and advanced geospatial solutions, Lockheed Martin said. WorldView-3 is expected to collect 680,000 square kilometers of imagery per day.
