The U.S. Air Force awarded Lockheed Martin [LMT] $87.6 million in follow-on production of Paveway II Plus Laser Guided Bomb (LGB) kits, the company said Monday.
The Paveway II Plus LGM kits help convert conventional gravity bombs into precision-guided munitions by adding a nose-mounted laser seeker and guidance fins/tail.

This contract represents the majority share of fiscal year 2016 funding and the eighth consecutive majority win for Lockheed Martin in the annual Air Force competition for upgrade bomb kit contracts, the company said. Deliveries under the contract include the guidance and tail assemblies for the GBU-10 (2,000 pound) and GBU-12 (500 pound) LGB configurations.
Lockheed Martin is a qualified provider of the three Paveway II MK-80 series LGB variants: the GBU-10 MK-84, GBU-12 MK-82, and GBU-16 MK-83. The systems are designed and manufactured at the company’s Archbald, Pa., production facility.
“Our efficient and cost-effective manufacturing enables us to offer the U.S. Air Force and our allies a cost-effective solution for their LGB requirements. Paveway II Plus LGB provides U.S. and allied warfighters with a reliable direct-attack capability to help them achieve their mission in today’s air-to-ground engagements,” Joe Serra, director of precision guided systems at Lockheed Martin’s missiles and fire control division, said in a statement.
