The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) last week disclosed it is starting a Microwave Technology Testbed effort to aid in the future missile defense program.
On June 4, MDA published a notice of intent to award Raytheon Technologies [RTX] a sole source cost-plus-fixed-fee $9.9 million contract “contract to mature a non-kinetic defense capability that supports very long range and extreme power levels, accelerate lethality analysis, and procure long-lead items for the testbed.”
The notice said the effort will include refinement of a baseline design, advanced technology insertion evaluation, and test planning and preparation to support future phases for integration of the MDA HPM Testbed
This effort will include refinement of a baseline design, advanced technology insertion evaluation, and test planning and preparation to support future phases for integration of the MDA High Power Microwaves (HPM) Testbed.
The notice of intent doubled as a request for information and MDA said responses are due June 19. Raytheon is being awarded the contract under provisions of only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy the agency requirements.
MDA said the contract performance period lasts 15 months.
