Truman relieves …… Nimitz. The USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) arrived in the Persian Gulf last week to relieve the USS Nimitz (CVN-68) after having its deployment delayed earlier this year due to budget constraints. The Truman took over as Commander, Task Force 50 on Aug. 26. The Truman carrier strike group departed on July 22 after engaging in a series of exercises leading up to the departure. The Pentagon postponed the Truman’s deployment in February because of the budget uncertainty on Capitol Hill that included the prospect of a continuing spending resolution and sequestration, which ended up taking effect March 1.

New Commands. The Pentagon earlier this week named officers who will assume control of two key commands. Rear Adm. David Baucom, who has been selected for a second star, is to be assigned as director, strategy, policy, programs, and logistics at U.S. Transportation Command in Scott Air Force Base, Ill.  Baucom currently is commander, Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support. And Capt. Alexander Krongard, who has been tapped to become a rear admiral, is to serve as as deputy commander, Joint Task Force, Horn of Africa in Djibouti. Krongard is currently serving as director of counter terrorism on the White House’s National Security Council.

DISA Meeting. The Defense Information Systems Agency is inviting people to check out the Pentagon’s Enterprise Cloud Service Broker draft Cloud Security Model (version 2.0D). The latest version focuses on the security requirements for hosting the department’s controlled unclassified information data in the cloud. New SNA Prez. The Surface Navy Association has announced a new president. Retired Vice Adm. Barry McCullough has been named to replace retired Vice Adm. Ron Route, who plans to become the president of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., in October. McCullough retired from the Navy in 2011, his last assignment as commander, U.S. Fleet Cyber Command and commander, U.S. 10th Fleet. He previously served as deputy chief of naval operations for integration of capabilities and director of surface warfare (OPNAV N86). McCullough currently is a vice president at Lockheed Martin.
