Moog Inc. [MOG.A] on Friday said it is in discussions with General Electric‘s [GE] Aviation Systems unit to acquire a flight control actuation product line based in the United Kingdom that was part of GE’s purchase of Smiths Aerospace in 2007.
Terms of the possible deal were not disclosed. Moog and GE have began to regulatory filing process and plan to sign a definitive purchase agreement soon, Moog said.
The U.K. operation designs and manufactures primary and secondary flight control actuation for various commercial and military programs such as the Boeing [BA] 777 and 787 and the Airbus A330 and A380 passenger planes. The business also provides primary flight controls for the European fighter Typhoon, and the main engine lift system for the U.K.’s Rolls-Royce engine on the STOVL version of the Joint Strike Fighter.
Moog said the U.K. business had about $100 million in sales last year and that it will be complementary to its Aircraft Controls Segment. That segment is expected to have $652 million in sales this year.
GE acquired Smiths Aerospace from Britain’s Smiths Group.
