Saab AB received a $12 million order from the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) for an unnamed number of RBS 70 BOLIDE missiles, the company said Wednesday.
The BOLIDE missile, which is produced in the RBS 70 and RBS 70 NG further enhanced models, is the company’s fourth generation all-target very short range air defense (VSHORAD) missile. It is used to counter various threats including fixed and rotary wing aircraft, cruise missiles, and UAVs. The BOLIDE has a range of over 8 kilometers (five miles) and altitude coverage of over 5,000 meters.

“This is a great order for Saab and it will further improve the customer´s capabilities and place it on the forefront when it comes to air defense systems. This order is a proof of their trust in our knowledge and in the RBS 70 system,” said Stefan Öberg, head of the missile systems business unit in the Saab dynamics business area.
Saab said 19 countries have procured over 1,600 RBS 70 systems, which includes over 17,000 missiles.
Missile deliveries are set to occur during 2016-17.
