The Navy has given General Dynamics [GD] Electric Boat a $429 million contract to provide planning yard work, engineering and technical support for nuclear-powered submarines.

The contract is in support for all of the Navy’s classes of submarines, spokesman Robert Hamilton said yesterday.

Electric Boat will provide design, engineering, material and logistics support, and research and development activities, and cost reduction support for submarines and submersibles.

The contract was originally awarded in October 2010 and could add up to $1.2 billion in value of all options are exercised.
