The USS Antietam, a Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser (CG-54), sustained significant damage to its two propellers Jan. 31 when it ran aground while anchoring in Tokyo Bay near Yokosuka, Japan, the U.S. Navy said.

Navy divers are inspecting the propellers to determine the full extent of the damage. Investigators are trying to figure out how the grounding occurred.

No one was injured in the incident, and the ship returned to Fleet Activities Yokosuka with the help of tug boats. Hydraulic oil was discharged into the water during the incident, and the Navy said it is working with the Japanese government to minimize harm to the environment.

Built by Huntington Ingalls Industries [HII] Ingalls Shipbuilding, the cruiser was commissioned in 1987.
