The Navy yesterday issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the design, development and integration of the Aegis Weapon System and Aegis Combat System future capabilities for CG-47 Ticonderoga Class guided missile ships, DDG-51 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers and other future ships.
The new procurement is for an evolution of the current Aegis Combat System that can track and monitor aircraft and missiles. Lockheed Martin [LMT], the incumbent Aegis integrator, and Raytheon [RTN], a key subcontractor for Aegis, are both expected to bid for the Aegis upgrade.
Proposals are due by Nov. 3.
