General Dynamics [GD] for the first time will display the newest member of the Piranha family, the Piranha 3+ at Eurosatory in Paris, June 16-20.
The wheeled Piranha family-of-vehicles has a modular approach so the vehicles can conduct a variety of missions and accommodate various mission packages.
The Piranha 3+ joins the Piranha 3 and Piranha 5, both of which offer an amphibious kit option. The Piranha 3 offers an Armored Personnel Carrier and Armored Chemical, Biological Radiological and Nuclear Reconnaissance (CBRN) vehicle. The Piranha 5 is a wheeled Infantry Fighting Vehicle.
Piranha 3+ was developed in response to customer requirements for “increased levels of protection, off road mobility and inherent growth for the future,” the company said June 4.
Specifically, GD said the Piranha 3+ has a gross vehicle weight of up to 27 tons, and has a Kongsberg 12.7 Protector Weapon Station, as well as a completely modular protection system designed with the flexibility to meet the latest protection system requirements and future protection needs.
The Infantry Fighting Vehicle configuration for Piranha 3+ can carry an infantry squad–up to nine soldiers plus driver, gunner and commander, and can be fitted with either a conventional or a hydro-pneumatic suspension system to balance performance, comfort, maintainability and cost as needed, the company statement said.
Piranha 3+ and other General Dynamics products will be located at Hall 5, Stand E850.
