French firms Nexter Systems and CILAS signed a letter of intent in mid-June for joint research work on the development of platform-based laser weapons.
This is an opportunity for Nexter, designer and manufacturer of complex weapons systems with high technical added value, to study the implementation of laser weapons, and for CILAS, producer of laser sources for the defense sector, to apply its cutting edge technology.
Nexter produces artillery systems such as CAESAR, TRAJAN and 105LG, Leclerc main battle tank, VBCI Infantry combat vehicle, ARAVIS highly-protected armored vehicle, and the new armored 6×6 TITUS.
Since 1966 CILAS has been developing high performance lasers for defense applications, science and industry. It also develops a range of equipment integrating laser technologies for defense and security such as laser range finders, laser target designators, and sniper and sight detectors.
