Big data analytics firm PlanetRisk on Tuesday said it has agreed to acquire another analytics firm, Analytic Strategies, in a deal that adds capabilities and new customers in the defense and intelligence sectors.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“At the core of this acquisition are highly valuable data analytics capabilities that will allow PlanetRisk to further expand its robust services in big data engineering, advanced analytics, geospatial business intelligence, social network analysis and enterprise risk modeling,” Paul McQuillan, president and CEO of PlanetRisk, said in a statement. “The addition of Analytic Strategies will bring the strength of new customer relationships across defense and intelligence sectors, existing prime and indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contracts, and perhaps most important, a team with extensive experience in enterprise data services that perfectly complements PlanetRisk’s unique big data, analytics and software capabilities.”
Analytic Strategies’ customers include the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Defense Logistics Agency, the Defense Health Agency, the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, branches of the Armed Forces, the Department of Justice, and others.
Mark Dumas, founder and chief strategy officer of PlanetRisk, said the acquisition will allow his company to provide analytics platform-as-a-service software to better serve its customer and their operational needs. Combined, the two companies will be able to offer public and private sector clients solutions to better understand threats to their organizations.
Randy Wimmer, founder and CEO of Analytic Strategies, will become a director on PlanetRisk’s board and a strategic adviser to McQuillan. Denis Clements, president and chief operating officer of Analytic Strategies, will become COO of PlanetRisk.
PlanetRisk is a portfolio company of the investment firm Frontier Capital. Petra Capital Partners is also an investor in PlanetRisk. Both investment firms provided financing for the acquisition.
PlanetRisk and Analytic Strategies are based in Northern Virginia.
