The State Department on Tuesday said it approved $3.7 billion in foreign military sales (FMS) to Poland of air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles, deals that will further bolster that county’s expanding defense capabilities.
The largest proposed FMS is a potential $1.8 billion deal for 821 Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles with Extended All-Up Rounds (JASSM-ER). Lockheed Martin [LMT] manufactures JASSM-ER.
The AGM-158 JASSM sale also includes classified test equipment and software, weapon system support, and contractor engineering and logistics support.
The State Department also approved a potential $1.7 billion sale of AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs) that are produced by RTX [RTX]. The proposed FMS includes 745 missiles, 16 guidance sections, and 50 LAU-129 guided missile launchers, and captive air training missiles, missile containers, and other equipment.
The final deal is for AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II Tactical missiles valued at $219.1 million. The Sidewinder is also made by RTX.
The Sidewinder deal includes 232 missiles, 16 tactical missile guidance kits, active optical target detectors, and other equipment.
Poland already has inventories of JASSM-ER, AMRAAM, and Sidewinder.
In 2023, the State Department approved $29.8 billion in potential FMS for Poland, including AH-64E Apache helicopters, High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System, and M1A1 Abrams main battle tanks.
