More than 200 people attended the event, including members of Congress, and leaders from 20 other participating companies. Krone was accompanied by John Hindman, who helped initiate the Leidos efforts in this area nearly two years ago.

“Even though I lost a child, I know I’m not alone,” said Hindman. “Today’s event is more than symbolism, it represents the sincere actions of the government and organizations to address this epidemic that’s ravaging our very nation and even the world. I applaud them for taking concrete steps.”

Leidos is committed to its ongoing corporate responsibility efforts to help end the opioid epidemic and is furthering initiatives to educate the company’s workforce of 32,000 employees. It is also working to launch a coalition of companies to address the crisis through its CEO pledge. Already, Leidos has established relationships with organizations including the Truth Initiative, Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America, the Chris Atwood Foundation, and the Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation. The company has also worked with Deterra® to distribute safe disposal pouches in local communities.

“Our industry is fortunate to have responsible corporate citizens that are charged with taking care of our communities,” said Leidos Chairman and CEO Roger Krone. “I’m especially grateful to attend this event with John who challenged our company to increase community awareness about the dangers of substance abuse – we’re committed to continuing efforts that answer that call.”
