PALO ALTO, Calif., April 2, 2019 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Artificial intelligence security and defense company Synapse Technology today announced that the Air Force awarded the company with a contract to research the deployment of artificial intelligence technology for detecting Improvised Explosive Devices at X-Ray security checkpoints at Air Force bases.

Through the Air Force’s AFWERX program, Synapse Technology will collaborate with the United States Air Force to evaluate the requirements and the potential development of artificial intelligence platforms to integrate with the X-ray machines currently deployed at U.S military bases. These X-ray machines are used to screen visitors to the base and are often manned by soldiers who are tasked with identifying threats like guns, knives, and improvised explosives. Using AI to automatically detect these threats will let these highly trained soldiers complete other critical duties.

“Threats evolve quickly, and AI has the potential to detect emerging IED threats, providing security against current and future threats while giving the warfighter more operational flexibility,” said Synapse CEO Peter Kant.

“Receiving the initial AFWERX contract is an exciting milestone for Synapse Technology. We look forward to collaborating closely with government agencies to solve their core use cases and help increase safety for our country’s soldiers,” said Madeline Zimmerman, Business Development Lead for Synapse Technology.

Synapse Technology looks forward to collaborating closely with the Air Force to roll out cutting-edge artificial intelligence technology to keep our soldiers safe.

About Synapse Technology
Synapse Technology’s AI platform Syntech ONE® integrates with new and existing X-ray machines used at security checkpoints. Instead of security screeners relying solely on human cognitive abilities to identify threats like guns and knives, Syntech ONE augments and automates the detection of these dangerous items. Syntech ONE has already been widely deployed, having processed over 5,000,000 passenger bags at security checkpoints in four countries. The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recognizes the value of Syntech ONE and has granted Synapse Technology Corporation a SAFETY Act award for its technology platform.
