A new public-private partnership aimed at bringing government leaders and industry together to enhance worldwide cyber security will meet in Malaysia later this month, marking the first large-scale global effort to address electronic security, the group said yesterday.

The International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber-Terrorism (IMPACT) has received about $30 million in funding from the government of Malaysia for its efforts. IMPACT officials said that at least 30 government will participate in the summit, which is scheduled for May 20-23.

The officials said it is unclear who the United States will be sending.

National governments have their own domestic policy agendas when it comes to cyber security but they also need to “talk to one another because cyber threats can’t be treated just within your own area,” Mohd Noor Amin, chairman and co-founder of IMPACT and chairman of the Malaysian information technology firm Ascendsys, said during a conference call with reporters. “We’re a platform for this exchange.”
