Germany’s Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology, and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) awarded Rheinmetall a series of orders worth about $14 million to supply ammunition and accessories to the Puma infantry fighting vehicles as it integrates into the German armed forces, the company said Wednesday.

The series of orders includes production and delivery of 10,000 rounds of 30mm x 173 caliber armor-piercing ammunition, modification of a system gun rest, and to supply special tools and spare parts. The orders were places from February to April 2016.

The PUMA IFV, being fielded by the Bundeswehr, is a new system for Germany’s mechanized infantry forces. Delivery of all 350 Pumas ordered is set to finish by 2020.

Rheinmetall’s Oberndorft unit was designated to be in charge of the new round of orders. It is the facility where the Puma’s main armament, the 30mm MK30-2/ABM automatic cannon, originated. Ammunition ordered in the contract order includes programmable rounds, which allows the Puma to engage in a wider spectrum of targets, the company said.
