Rockwell Collins said on Dec. 23 that it has completed the purchase of ARINC Incorporated from the Carlyle Group for $1.4 billion.
Founded in 1929, ARINC specializes in communications, engineering and system integration. The company’s primary clients are in aviation, transportation, security, government and aerospace.
“Combining ARINC’s high-performance, high-quality and high-assurance networks and services with our information systems onboard the aircraft strengthens our ability to deliver improved efficiency and safety, and enhanced connectivity,” Rockwell Collins CEO Kelly Ortberg said in a statement.
Ortberg said the acquisition will allow Rockwell Collins to expand into areas where ARINC has an existing footprint, such as airport information systems and transportation security.
The company expects the integration process to take six to nine months. To avoid a conflict of interest, Rockwell Collins sold ARINC’s Industry Standards Organization to SAE International. ARINC previously helped set voluntary technical standards for aircraft electronic systems, maintenance and training. Rockwell Collins also plans to divest ARINC’s military aerospace engineering division “due to a lack of fit with its long-term strategy.”
