Saab AB delivered a new Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Automatic Warning and Reporting (AWR) detection system to a customer in Kuwait, the company said Monday.
The company highlighted the AWR “is a flexible, modular and future-proof solution for the detection, identification, warning, monitoring and reporting of CBRN hazards.” It uses integrated hardware and software to provide early warnings to personnel on the battlefield, helping the operator make fast and accurate decisions, Saab said.
It can be operated from fixed locations, carried by personnel or mounted on vehicles.
Kuwait took delivery of a CBRN AWR system with mobile detection and surveillance units as well as stationary detection units that provide complete chemical and radiological surveillance, Saab said. It also includes a 24-hour command and control monitoring center.
The tactical system includes Saab´s 9LAND BMS AWR command and control software. If it is activated by a CBRN condition, the stationary system automatically hands over operations to the mobile tactical system, the company said. The mobile units include pressure-protected light vehicles that contain a “full picture from data collected” in the AWR system.
The mobile units are camouflaged and protected with Barracuda´s HTR system for heat reduction, Saab said.
“A new international customer validates that Saab´s CBRN solutions are in the front-line on the market, and that we are breaking new ground. This delivery is to an international reference customer for our CBRN AWR system, with a combination of integrated mobile and stationary systems,” said Nils Erik Lindblom, director of marketing and sales at the Saab Land business unit within the Support and Services business area.
“It bodes well for Saab´s potential to expand the business and strengthen our position in the CBRN area. There is a trend developing within the CBRN area for countries to move away from stand-alone solutions to properly integrated CBRN systems and vehicles,” Lindblom added.
