Saab AB received a nearly $33 million order for the delivery of RBS 70 missiles and additional equipment and training, the company said on Monday.
Deliveries are set to occur between 2015 and 2016.
RBS 70 is a laser-guided man-portable air-defense system (MANPADS) with a range of 200–8,000 meters with an altitude coverage of 0–5,000 meters. The missile travels at a maximum velocity of Mach 2.
“One of our customers of the RBS 70 system has placed an additional order to achieve added capacity of its forces. This order demonstrates the reliability of the RBS 70 system, as well as the high quality of our manufacturing and support capabilities,” Görgen Johansson, head of the dynamics business area of Saab, said.
“The RBS 70 is a modern system with a long lifespan. An increasing number of customers are discovering its flexible design, which allows for the system to be continuously upgraded,” Johansson added.
Details of the contract are restricted due to a confidentiality agreement between the company and the customer. Saab said no further information about the order will be released.
The RBS 70 system has been delivered to over 19 countries.
