Saab AB was awarded a contract worth over $21 million by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Defence to supply a new advanced training system for the Austrian Army, the company said Tuesday.
The contract includes Saab’s next generation of soldier training systems with new add-on equipment that is meant to extend the current system.
Saab highlighted Austria previously purchased simulation systems from the company for its tanks, anti-tank weapons, and soldiers. Under the contract, the company will also deliver a mid-life upgrade for Austria’s current vehicle and anti-tank training systems.
The contract will provide increased capability for training conscripts and professional soldiers, Saab said.
“We continue to build on the success of our existing relationship with the Austrian army. For more than 15 years they have been using our system; they are an extremely far-sighted and experienced partner. Saab is delivering training systems to all of the armed forces in Europe and Austria is now able to enhance their multinational training activities,” Henrik Höjer, head of the Saab training and simulation business unit, said in a statement.
Other countries that use Saab’s live training systems include the United States, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Estonia, and the Czech Republic.
Deliveries of the system are planned for 2015 to 2018 with production occurring in Huskvarna, Austria
