France’s Safran yesterday said it has completed its $1.1 billion acquisition of L-1 Identity Solutions making it the “world leader in biometric identity solutions.”
L-1 is being renamed MorphoTrust and will operate under Safran’s security business, Morpho.
Safran said that if the deal had closed in 2010, Morpho’s sales last year would have totaled $2 billion. Morpho will have more than 7,200 employees, including 2,200 in the United States. In addition to MorphoTrust, Morpho operates Morpho Detection in the United States, a provider of airport security scanning equipment.
Separately, Safran yesterday said the Morpho Detection has completed its acquisition of Syagen Technology, a leader in developing mass spectrometry technology focused on security applications.
Safran also said that Dennis Cooke, Morpho Detection’s president the past six years going back to when the business unit was owned by General Electric [GE], has resigned to join Ryder System, Inc., a transportation and supply chain management company. Morpho Detection’s new chief is Brad Buswell, who was previously vice president for Global Strategy.
“Syagen’s team of mass spectrometry experts and their world-class technologies will help us take trace detection solutions to the next level of detection effectiveness and operational efficiency,” Buswell said in a statement.
