Sagem Securite and Hitachi have unveiled the first multimodal biometric device that incorporates fingerprint and finger vein imaging. FINGER VP can be used for one-to- one and one-to-many matching. The devices uses Sagem’s fingerprint identification technology and Hitachi’s finger vein imaging, which detects the pattern of blood vessels under the skin. FINGER VP will be rolled out in 2010. The companies say the devices is designed to be used either as a standalone system or integrated into a vast range of end-user devices such as access control terminals, ATM machines, mobile devices for identity checks and secure payments. Sagem is a division of France’s Safran Group.
