SAIC [SAI] on Tuesday said it has agreed to acquire SM Consulting, Inc. (SMC), a woman-owned business that provides foreign language translation services, and consulting in information technology, management and business processes, to federal, state and local governments and private industry.
Terms of the deal, which is expected to close by the end of April subject to regulatory approval, were not disclosed. SMC, which is based in Baltimore, has more than 460 employees. In 2006 the company ranked 201st on Inc. 500 magazine’s fastest growing company list with three-year growth of 593 percent.
“By combining SMC’s expertise with that of SAIC, we will offer enhanced capabilities, particularly in language and analytical services, to support the mission-critical programs in the markets we serve,” John Hynes, SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager, said in a statement. SMC will join SAIC’s Mission Integration Business Unit based in Northern Virginia.
SMC is on the General Services Administration Language Services schedule. The company’s customers include the defense and intelligence communities.
“This transaction will allow us to provide a broader range of capabilities to support our customer’s critical missions,” Sheila Heinze, president and CEO of SMC, said in a statement. “In addition, we believe SAIC will provide our employees greater opportunities for further personal and professional development.”
