Science Applications International Corp. [SAI] is trialing several units of its VACIS XPL passenger vehicle scanning system–which is the CarScan product that it acquired through its acquisition of Spectrum San Diego last year–in the Middle East and in Mexico. Since acquiring CarScan, SAIC has made the relatively compact portal, low-dose X-Ray system more robust. The VACIS XPL is designed to rapidly scan vehicles at checkpoints without requiring them to stop or occupants to exit. The system switched-energy X-Ray technology provides color-coded scan images that help inspectors locate organic materials such as drugs, explosives and stowaways.
