The Senate on Wednesday voted 85-12 in favor of Daniel Coats to be Director of National Intelligence (DNI), succeeding James Clapper, who resigned at the end of the Obama administration.
Coats is a former Republican senator from Indiana.
The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee approve by voice vote the nomination of Elaine Duke to be deputy secretary of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Duke’s nomination must still be approved by the full senate.
Duke has been widely praised for her government management experience and she is expected to be running the day to day operations of DHS once she is confirmed.
