The U.S. Space Systems Command recently awarded prototype contracts to BAE Systems, General Dynamics [GD], Omni Federal, and Parsons [PSN] to develop and integrate prototype ground systems for command and control of new missile warning satellites.

The values of the contracts were not disclosed. BAE said it expects to deliver its prototype this fall.

The Future Operationally Resilient Ground Evolution Command and Control (FORGE C2) will provide the missile warning C2 platform for the Next-Generation Overhead Persistent Infrared (OPIR) Geostationary Earth Orbiting and Next-Generation OPIR Polar satellite systems and legacy assets.

Omni Federal said its teammates include Freedom Space, Infinity Systems, and Zivaro. Freedom Space has experience in owning and operating ground stations, and in satellite operations, Infinity is an incumbent on FORGE provides engineering and integration expertise for space and ground systems, and Zivaro has expertise in missile warning around cloud hosting environments, and integrated C2 battle management, and communications systems.

Phase 2 awards to one or more companies’ designs for further development and testing are expected in early 2025. The first Next-Gen OPIR Polar satellite launch is scheduled for 2028.
