The State Department has approved several new foreign military sales (FMS) with Australia, the Netherlands, and a possible $3.9 billion deal with Romania for seven Patriot air defense systems.
Congress was notified of the potential deal on Monday for the 7 Patriot Configuration-3+ Modernized Fire Units, which would consist of 7 AN/MPQ-65 radar sets, 7 AN/MSQ-132 engagement control stations, 13 antenna mast groups, 28 M903 launching stations, 56 Patriot MIM-104E Guidance Enhanced Missile-TBM missiles,168 Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement missiles, and 7 Electrical Power Plants (EPP) III. The Romanian government also requested communications and training equipment, repair parts, personnel training, and engineering support.
The prime contractors for the deal would be Raytheon [RTN] and Lockheed Martin [LMT]. If implemented, the contract would include 30 U.S. government representatives and 40 contractor representatives to travel to Romania for equipment fielding, training and technical support.
Two potential deals with the Netherlands also received approval from the State Department, with Congress receiving notice on Monday of a $58.2 million contract for 32 AN/AAR-57A(V)7 Common Missile Warning Systems (CMWS) and a $34 million amended FMS for 70 additional AGM-114R Hellfire II missiles on Tuesday.
BAE Systems will serve as the contractor for the CMWS deal, and the Netherlands plans to utilize the missile warning systems on its fleet of AH-46D Apache helicopters. Lockheed Martin is the contractor for the Hellfire missiles deal, which is an add-on to a previous $26.3 million FMS for 80 AGM-114R Hellfire II Missiles and 24 M36E8 Captive Air Training Missiles.
The State Department also approved two possible deals with Australia on Monday, the first for upgrades to its fleet of F/A-18E/F Super Hornet aircraft and the second for 120mm tank ammunition.
Harris Corporation [HRS] would serve as the prime contractor for the potential $101.4 million Super Hornet aircraft deal, in which the Australian government has requested 32 Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio System and increased system integration and technical support. The possible deal for the 120mm tank ammunition is worth $50 million and would include 6,030 rounds of M865 120mm Target Practice Cone Stabilized Discarding Sabot-Tracer Tank Projectiles and 8,610 rounds of M1002 120mm Target Practice Multipurpose Tracer Tank Projectiles.
