The Swedish Defence Material Administration (FMV) ordered $56 million in new sensor systems for two A26-type submarines and two Gotland-class submarines from Saab, the company said on Monday
Submarines’ sensor systems detect threats, identify other submarines and surface vessels, and provide navigation support.
The systems are to be provided to Saab by other suppliers and they have lengthy lead-times, Saab said. They are being ordered in a timely method to allow the FMV to stay on schedule with its plans for the A26 next-generation submarine program.
The order is part of a Letter of Intent covering Swedish armed forces’ underwater capabilities referring to the 2015-2024 period. It was signed on June 9, 2014.
