The Swedish Defence Material Administration (FMV) ordered $56 million in new sensor systems for two A26-type submarines and two Gotland-class submarines from Saab, the company said on Dec. 8
Submarines’ sensor systems detect threats, identify other submarines and surface vessels, and provide navigation support.
The systems are to be provided to Saab by other suppliers and they have lengthy lead-times, Saab said. They are being ordered in a timely method to allow the FMV to stay on schedule with its plans for the A26 next-generation submarine program.
The order is part of a Letter of Intent covering Swedish armed forces’ underwater capabilities referring to the 2015-2024 period. It was signed on June 9, 2014.
