Textron Systems [TXT] said yesterday that the  Army has exercised a contract option of $49.6 million for 65 additional M1117 Armored Security Vehicles (ASV).

The ASVs will be manufactured at Textron Marine & Land Systems facilities in the New Orleans area. Textron has produced 3,161 ASVs for the Army to date.

The M1117 is a 4X4 ASV that offers significant crew protection through its V-shaped hull design, and multiple layers of armor, defending against small arms fire, artillery projectile fragments, Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and land mines.

“For more than a decade, our Louisiana-based employees have worked hard to design and manufacture ASV products that deliver outstanding performance across a wide range of challenging environments, while providing our soldiers exceptional levels of security, mobility and protection,” said Textron Marine & Land Systems Senior Vice President and General Manager Tom Walmsley.
