Textron Marine and Land Systems [TXT] has been awarded a $5.5 million contract to provide armored turrets and other services for the Colombian Army’s armored personnel carriers (APC), the company said yesterday.

The contract, awarded by the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM), calls for 12 armored turrets, technical support services, vehicle repairs and spare parts for the Colombian Army’s personnel carriers.

The Colombian Army has had 39 COMMANDO advanced carriers in operation since their introduction in 2010 and is seeking to buy more under a separate Foreign Military Sales program.

The Textron MPC is an extended version of the M1117 armored security vehicle that has deployed with U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.
