France’s Thales yesterday said it has completed the acquisition of Florida-based Tampa Microwave, boosting its capabilities and products in wideband tactical satellite communications (SATCOM) for defense, government and commercial customers.
The closure of the deal follows approval by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States.
“By leveraging the proven expertise of both Thales and Tampa Microwave, we plan to further expand and diversify our communications technology to meet the critical challenges warfighters are facing on the battlefield,” Allan Cameron, president and CEO of Thales USA, said in a statement.
Tampa Microwave develops and manufactures SATCOM manpack terminals the provide high-bandwidth, voice, video and data battlefield communications at the tactical level. The company will operate as a subsidiary of Thales Communications, Inc., which is a Thales USA company. Tampa Microwave’s management is remaining with the company.
The deal was first announced last December (Defense Daily, Dec. 7, 2011).
