OSI Systems [OSIS] says its Rapiscan division has won a tender from the United Kingdom Customs authority to provide multiple Eagle M4500 mobile cargo and vehicle inspection systems for deployment at strategic ports of entry as part of a process to upgrade existing screening technologies. The value of the award was not disclosed. Rapiscan tells TR2 that five systems will be delivered in June and July. Rapiscan says the contract includes a 10-year service agreement. Rapiscan says its win resulted in replacing an incumbent supplier. Rapiscan recently opened dedicated cargo manufacturing facilities in North Carolina and the U.K. The facility in the U.K. has produced more than 50 high energy cargo systems since it opened in 2007. The M4500, as deployed by the U.S. government, is mounted on a road worthy commercial truck platform and can be deployed to scan shipping containers and trucks in less than 20 minutes. Stephens Inc. analyst Tim Quillin guesstimates that the order is for about 10 units and is worth between $15 million and $20 million.
