Northrop Grumman [NOC] has received a two-year extension on an existing contract with the United Kingdom Home Office to continue providing services, systems operations and maintenance for a forensic and biometric program used by law enforcement.
The value of the extension to the Forensic and Biometric Interim Capability (FABrIC) wasn’t disclosed. Northrop Grumman in 2015 won a two-year $37 million contract for FABrIC, which was a recompete of the finger and palm print IDENT1 identity management and crime scene forensic contract the company first won in 2004.
The IDENT1 system has about 30,000 users and provides electronic finger and palm print matching and analysis of arrested persons, access to international databases, and information sharing between various authorities in the U.K.
“This contract extension will enable us to maintain continuity of services for the Home Office and to provide the police force with the advanced national identity management capabilities they need,” Andrew Tyler, chief executive of Northrop Grumman Europe, said in a statement.
In the U.S., Northrop Grumman developed the current multimodal biometric database used by the Defense Department. The company is also competing to build a new multimodal biometric database for the Department of Homeland Security.
